about

The short and snappy four-track EP 'Sun Cadence' takes the more nature-themed, home-listening qualities of MinimusNoah’s organic electronica style and twists them to fit an exceedingly more beat-oriented, textured, and experimentally-tinged sound. In a contrast of sorts, Sun Cadence contains a lot more acoustic-sounding instrumentation when compared to previous MinimusNoah works, with layers upon layers of both manipulated acoustic recordings and virtually-emulated acoustic instrumentation appearing abundantly throughout the project. That's not to say that synthwork is completely out of the equation either, with each of these songs containing plentiful sequences of synth phrases, sometimes jagged, sometimes lush. The project also boasts a more robust and tightly-knit production style; every sound placed within these tracks have a reason to be there. Sun Cadence constantly uses its tip-toeing of subgenre to its advantage, creating a uniquely captivating electroacoustic journey that sticks with you.

Much like other MinimusNoah works such as Organica, Sun Cadence was born out of the desire to to do something different. Right from the get-go, the project was composed with the mindset that each sound within these tracks should always keep altering section by section, constantly changing. On the same coin, lots of sounds on the record are purposely used in the wrong context to produce something more unique. Whether that be in the form of using what was supposed to be a sub-bass focused synth for a main melody in Lustre, using a distorted “cheese flute” preset as a dance synth at the end of Tethys, or using chair thumping sounds as ambience in Seafoam, MinimusNoah is always looking for the oddball approach.

The project is fronted by opening track & lead single 'Lustre', which very quickly welcomes you into the EP's sound palette with syncopated guitar harmonics, piano chords, and lush synth arpeggios that are backed with a busy, bustling beat to match. This momentum is continued on the extremely textured and bouncy 'Tethys', a track that embellishes in its dance grooves akin to previous MinimusNoah cuts like Birdsong and those of the like. Third track 'Aura' is a track akin to Bonobo and other downtempo producers of the sort, with its lush, plucky instrumentation and acoustic percussion blending in between the track's cut up vocal refrain. The EP is brought to a chilled, yet slightly triumphant end with the closer 'Seafoam', a track that wraps everything together in a way that will leave you immediately wanting to replay the project all over again.
